In the process of personal transformation and healing, you may sometimes find yourself existing somewhere between your “old self” and your “new self.”
The “old self” is the identity that has served you up until now, which you have likely outgrown and are now seeking to shed.
This “old self” is made up of the collection of attachments, self-perceptions, habits, behaviors, choices, and coping mechanisms (or “life strategies”) you’ve been carrying with you from the past.
On the spiritual path, we often discover that many of these old attachments, beliefs, and coping mechanisms are CONSTRICTING us… so we seek to dissolve and release them.
Your “new self” is your emerging identity and new way of BEING in the world, made up of the collection of conscious choices, behaviors, beliefs, and life strategies you’re stretching yourself into.
Your “new self” is also likely to be the more authentic, intuitive, true version of yourself — your essential Self.
This brilliant Self is revealed, layer by layer, the more you shed anything that doesn’t reflect the truth of who you are.
As we expand, we often have to “straddle” an in-between state: that state when your new Self hasn’t fully emerged, and your old self is still sometimes running the show (when you fall back into old patterns, without really meaning to).
This is when the “old” isn’t working for you anymore, but the “new” hasn’t been fully born.
The mystery, uncertainty, and intense FLUX of this in-between state can be challenging to navigate.
You may feel like two people living in the same body — one day content, at peace, connected, in awe of the Universe…
… and the next day irritable, distracted, or easily triggered by a minor blip in your day.
The key as you move through this incredible process of transformation is to:
(1) extend compassion and understanding to your old self, as it learns to let go and surrender and,
(2) allow your new self to emerge in its own time, with lots of patience and remaining a curious observer of this inner process.
Try not to get overly attached to either version of yourself, to rush the process, or to see your old self as “bad” and your new self as “good” (in spiritual terms, they are both purposeful).
This in-between state can also be navigated more lovingly, more consciously, and more effortlessly through the unconditional support of the Akashic Records — who can help you release your old self AND birth your new, most authentic Self in the way that most serves you.
Here are some good questions to ask while in the Records:
- What aspect of my “old self” am I being invited (or challenged) to release now?
- Where & how am I resisting letting go of this “old self”?
- What aspect of my “new self” is ready to be born now?
- How can I support the emergence of my new, most authentic Self?
We’ll be using the Akashic Records to move through this process of transformation and expansion — and also mastering how to support others with the Records as they move through their own healing — in my Akashic Records Certification Program for practitioners.
