Avoiding a common pitfall in Akashic Records work

The Akashic Records can help you release what doesn’t serve you, shed layers of human density, transmute old or stuck emotions and experiences, and gain a much deeper understanding of yourself and your Highest Purpose.

(I’ve experienced all of this myself, in working with the Records for my personal healing for 20 years… AND I’ve seen my students and clients be powerfully transformed by turning “on” the energy of the Records in their lives over the past decade.)

It’s a true privilege and joy to get to do this work.

At the same time – as with any profound spiritual practice or endeavor – there are some pitfalls we want to avoid when we use the Records for healing and guidance.

Let me share a quote from Buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield, to put this into context:

“We must understand that meditation, like any kind of therapy or [spiritual] discipline, can be used in skillful ways, for freedom, for liberation, for opening the heart. It can also be used in defensive ways, in service of the ego and of our fears… so we do not have to deal with certain difficulties or feel certain difficult emotions; by paying attention to the light so that we can avoid certain aspects of our shadow, our dark side.”
-from his essay, “Obstacles and Vicissitudes in Spiritual Practice”

Working with the Akashic Records, as a regular and consistent practice, is very similar to committing to regular meditation.

And just as with meditation, we can use our Akashic Records practice in ALL kinds of different ways – as Kornfield says, “for freedom, for liberation, for opening the heart… OR in service of the ego and of our fears”, as a way to avoid reality, difficult emotions, or facing the shadows within ourselves.

This is a poignant and necessary reminder that, as we walk the spiritual path and work with the Akashic Records, we still bring all of our human aspects with us.

We must be aware of these aspects – including our attachments, illusions, conditioning, fears, doubts, egoic distractions, and tendency to “spiritually bypass” that which is difficult or confronting – so we can stay one step ahead, and not derail or sabotage ourselves.

We must be keenly aware of any tendency in ourselves to use spiritual practices or tools (including the Akashic Records) as forms of escapism and avoidance… as ways to REJECT the day-to-day human reality we are each experiencing.

This requires us to continually check ourselves; to evaluate HOW we are using our tools, practices, and rituals.

A good set of questions I like to use for this:

  1. What’s my intention for using this tool / engaging in this spiritual practice today?
  2. What am I hoping to experience, transform, release, and/or heal by using this tool or doing this practice today?
  3. What’s my state of mind as I prepare to use this tool or do this practice?
  4. If I listen intently and without judgment… is there anything in my life or reality I’m avoiding or resisting right now? Can this tool or practice help me face and move through this challenging thing… OR am I reaching for this tool or practice as a form of avoidance?

Getting really honest about this – about HOW we’re implementing our spirituality in daily life – can make a life-changing difference.

It can support you in creating genuine transformation and healing through all of the tools and practices you choose to use… including the Akashic Records.

With love,
Josephine
