What’s required to become an extraordinary healer (Part 1)

*Welcome, Lightworker! I invite you to join my email community to get free access to my Akashic Records Mini Course + weekly newsletter.

How can a good healer become an extraordinary, sought-after, highly effective healer and facilitator of transformation in others?

What’s required to go from “good” to “extraordinary”?

What needs to be in place so you can go from delivering generally good readings or sessions… to delivering work that TRULY supports your clients in healing and evolving to their next level of consciousness?

These are some of the questions I ponder constantly as I teach my Akashic Records Certification Program and support my students in becoming the best (i.e., most effective) healers they can be.

You know what I’ve discovered is definitely NOT required?

Perfection.

Or, more accurately, the illusion that we must be perfect as healers… or that we need to heal EVERY single pattern, challenge, or issue in our own lives before we can show up powerfully for others.

(It’s so important we dispel that myth right now, so it doesn’t hold you back from getting out there and being as visible as possible – cause people NEED the magic you’re here to offer!).

Rather than trying to achieve some impossible standard of perfection, we can focus on cultivating the following 4 attitudes.

These can take you from good healer into a sought-after, masterful practitioner who consistently elicits breakthroughs and deep healing in your clients.

Attitude 1: Willingness to ask bold questions

In Akashic Records work, questions are portals – portals into new insights, breakthroughs, transformation, and healing.

It’s critical we ask the “right” questions – i.e., the most effective, empowering, illuminating questions that will unlock genuinely transformative insights for our clients.

(This is true of the questions we ask the Records AND of the questions we ask our clients… and ourselves!)

To become extraordinary healers, we must be willing to ask bold, potent questions – and help our clients ask bold questions – with curiosity, detachment, and true openness to receive the answers.

Questions such as:

  • What am I not seeing in this situation?
  • How am I contributing to this challenge or issue in my life?
  • What do I need to LET GO OF in order to heal and move on?
  • Which part of me is still attached to this issue or challenge, and how can I support that part in letting go?
  • What unhelpful stories have I been telling and believing about myself, and how can I transform them now?

Attitude 2: High level of integrity and ethical standards

This attitude is, ideally, self-explanatory.

It includes things like:

  • walking the walk (not just “talking” it)
  • continually doing the inner work ourselves
  • adhering to the highest standards of integrity and ethics in our work
  • upholding our core values in daily life – i.e., NOT saying one thing to our clients and then doing the opposite in our private lives
  • refining our skills and investing in professional development
  • expanding our toolkit, so we can be as flexible and well-equipped as possible
  • becoming trauma-informed in helpful and appropriate ways

Becoming an extraordinary healer – and continuing to offer extraordinary work year after year – isn’t always easy, convenient, or comfortable.

It requires us to hold ourselves to high standards both in our personal lives – how we show up in the world on a daily basis – AND in our professional work with clients.

There are no shortcuts or “quick and cheap” ways to get there, especially if we’re fully committed to guiding our clients safely and powerfully to their desired transformations.

We’ve all had experiences of working with healers who were under-trained, or who had poor boundaries, or where we ended up feeling disempowered at the end of the session.

Quick anecdote to illustrate: I once had a potential client share that she’d seen a “spiritual healer” who told her her Soul was “60% dark”, and that she needed a ton of work to get her Soul “back to the light.”

This woman was terrified, asking me how she could “fix” her Soul.

I was speechless and enraged at this incredible nonsense she had been told!

What kind of “healer” is out there telling people this kind of thing???

This is why we must be so committed to raising the standards of the spiritual and self-development industries, NOW.

I’ll share two more attitudes in the second part of this blog post.

Sneak peek: attitude #3 is a game-changer, and something many healers out there aren’t fully doing. (So it will absolutely give you a leg up!)

Stay tuned!

With love,
Josephine

  1. I found this article comforting since I am always feeling not ready, inadequate and yet I spent a considerable amount of time and money on personal development.
“how we show up in the world on a daily basis”
We often show up for others more often and readily for others but how do we show up for ourselves with less vigor-why is this? What does it look like showing up for ourselves. I am realizing that it makes us more complete and more grounded to hold Sacred Space for our community. It’s a process and “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.

Hi Diane, thank you for reading this and sharing how it landed for you! I love your important questions and thoughts here – especially about what it means to show up for ourselves, day in and day out. I agree completely that it all starts there! The more we can show up for ourselves with energy, enthusiasm, trust, and belief in our gifts — the more we can serve others in powerful and meaningful ways.
